The Burt County Plaindealer is very excited to bring to you this special publication that our young students have put together for our area businesses. This is our second year of the “Design An Ad” project which was established to foster creativity in our elementary school kids. Earlier this year, every K-6 elementary classroom in Burt County was sent a packet with instructions for students to “Design An Ad” for their favorite area business. Classrooms were encouraged to use this as a learning tool for their students and they had the choice to pick any business in the area to feature. They then designed an ad for the business to use to promote their company.

The ads that were designed and returned back to the Plaindealer were provided to each business with an opportunity to sponsor them for this special feature. For each sponsored ad that you see here in this publication, the Burt County Plaindealer and the company that sponsored it is donating $6 back to the student’s classroom. Area businesses featured were very excited to see the student’s artwork. While not every student’s work was “sponsored” they were all appreciative of their work.

Next week, all submissions (sponsored or not) will be available online at www.burtcountyplaindealer.com for you to review. And many of these businesses have their ads hanging up at their establishment.

This special project offers students the chance to gain a greater understanding of marketing, use their creativity and gain experience in how local newspapers play a role in communication. We had a panel of judges review each grade level’s ads and they selected the best designs which were awarded a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prize.

A huge thank you to the teachers and students that made submissions!

Overall, the Burt County Plaindealer and these great sponsors raised over $2,000 to be donated back to the classrooms and for the student prizes.

This year’s “Design An Ad” project was unique and wildly successful. We had a record number of submissions and sponsored ads. We were thankful to get this out to the schools and back before the COVID-19 shutdown. As the school year officially comes to an end, we thought this is a great time to recognize the talent of our students and wish them the best of luck for next year. We hope you enjoy looking through these ads and what it is like to see a business through a child’s eyes. We sincerely thank our sponsors, teachers, students and everyone involved in putting this together. Please support the businesses that were kind enough to sponsor these young artist’s work.

Thanks again to everyone and congratulations to the winners!
