Tekamah Chamber of Commerce is planning the annual Sweet Corn Festival on Aug. 14.
Because of renovations at City Auditorium the corn fest will take place on the street north of the Chatterbox. As in the past, the event will feature free sweet corn, live music, and other food options available for purchase.
Aug. 14 also is back-to-school night at Tekamah Elementary, so the Chamber is coordinating a supply drive for the school in conjunction with the feed.
But the annual celebration will take on a new twist.
Chamber officials also are planning a Community Day of Giving, co-sponsoring the drive with Tekamah Community Foundation. The foundation will match donations on that day, up to a total of $10,000, for five projects in Tekamah: the food pantry, walking trail, Guy Mytty Wrestling Center, Tekamah Pool and VFW Hall.
Donations can also be given to the foundation in general for those who don’t want to pick a project.
Cargill also is contributing to the effort, Chamber president Cindy Chatt said.
