One shot.

A single stroke on the Indian Trails Golf Club course near Beemer is all that kept Tekamah-Herman freshman Brock Rogers out of this week’s Class C state tournament.

Rogers carded an 89 at the Class C District 2 meet played May 13. His score was the lowest among the Tiger squad. The lone senior on the Tiger card, Cody Elliott, finished his T-H career with a 94. Wyatt Deemer played the hilly Indian Trails course in 114, Eldridge Jensen shot 115 while Jed Hoover came in at 116.

The Tigers’ team score of 412 was good for seventh place in the 15 school tourney.

Rogers and Elliott were the team’s lettermen in team awards announced Friday by coach John Walford. Rogers also posted the team’s low competitive average score. Nolan Heim was named the team’s most improved player.

Elliott and Brooklyn Brenneis were named academic all-staters.

Oakland-Craig’s Ian Lunquist heads to the state tournament as the District 2 champ. His 5-over par 77 was one shot better than the 78 carded by Andrew Franzluebbers of Guardian Angels Central Catholic.

Led by Lundquist, the Knights landed four players in the top 10 on their way to the district title and a team berth at state. O-C posted a team score of 335, opening a 41-shot cushion over the runners-up from David City. Yutan claimed third place, and the final team spot at state, with their 380.

The Class C state tourney, was set for May 21 and 22 at Meadowlark Hills in Kearney.
