1 C. flour
1 tsp. powdered sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 C. milk
2 pared, diced apples
Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl. Beat together egg and milk, then add to the dry ingredients. You should have a ball of dough when you are done.
Stir or use your hands to mix in the apples.
Heat oil or shortening to 375. I use an electric skillet and use about 1½ inches of oil. My mom uses an electric Dutch oven and uses 3 inches of oil. If you have a fryer, that works too.
When the oil is hot, drop in the batter by spoonfuls.
If they don't turn over themselves, you must flip them when they are brown on the bottom. When golden brown and the oil is bubbling lightly around the fritter, remove from oil. Drain on paper towels.
You can dip the fritters in sugar to eat (what my family does) or you can roll them in powdered sugar. Makes 12-15 fritters.
