In weighted average negotiated prices for barrows and gilts, USDA reported;

  • National carcass base up $1.30 to $70.52/cwt.
  • Iowa-Minnesota carcass base was reported at $72.78

USDA reported carcass cutout values this afternoon rose 62 cents to $92.11/cwt.

Hogs were firm and there is some anticipation of better demand after the cold snap ends, according to Virginia McGathey of the CME Group.

Hog slaughter was estimated at 413 thousand head, according to Total Farm Marketing.
