1/2 C. butter
1/2 C. margarine
1/2 C. white sugar
1/2 C. brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 C. flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
Cream shortening and sugars. Add egg and vanilla and beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients and mix well. Shape into 3/4-inch balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten with bottom of glass which has been dipped in sugar. Bake in 350° oven for 8 to 10 minutes. Yields 4 1/2 dozen. For holidays, can do red and green sugar.
