USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service crop progress and conditions for the week ending Aug. 18, 2019: 

KANSAS

Topsoil moisture supplies rated 6 percent very short, 18 short, 67 adequate, and 9 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 5 percent very short, 18 short, 71 adequate, and 6 surplus. 

Field Crops Report

Corn condition rated 4 percent very poor, 11 poor, 34 fair, 41 good, and  10 excellent. Corn silking was 97 percent, near 99 for both last year and the five-year average. Dough was 72 percent, behind 86 last year and 82 average. Dented was 37 percent, behind  56 last year, and near 41 average. Mature was 4 percent, behind 13 last year, and near 5 average. 

Soybean condition rated 4 percent very poor, 8 poor, 40 fair, 43 good, and 5 excellent. Soybeans blooming was 84 percent, behind 96 last year and 92 average. Setting pods was 60 percent, well behind 81 last year, and behind 70 average. 

Sorghum condition rated 2 percent very poor, 8 poor, 30 fair, 54 good, and 6 excellent. Sorghum headed was 66 percent, behind 83 last year and 78 average. Coloring was 11 percent, behind  25 last year and 18 average. 

Cotton condition rated 3 percent very poor, 13 poor, 41 fair, 38 good, and 5 excellent. Cotton squaring was 92 percent, behind 100 last year, but near 90 average. Setting bolls was 55 percent, behind 68 last year, but ahead of 50 average. Bolls opening was 1 percent, near 2 last year and  4 average.

Pasture and Range Report

Pasture and range conditions rated 2 percent very poor, 6 poor,  27 fair, 55 good, and 10 excellent.

MISSOURI

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 15 percent short, 78 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus.  Subsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 10 percent short, 84 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus. 

Field Crops Report

Corn dough progressed to 77 percent, 17 percentage points behind last year. Corn dented progressed to 27 percent. Corn condition was rated at 6 percent very poor, 19 percent poor, 39 percent fair, 32 percent good, and 4 percent excellent.

Soybeans blooming progressed to 82 percent this week, while soybeans setting pods progressed to 53 percent, 22 percentage points behind last year. Soybean condition was rated at 4 percent very poor, 13 percent poor, 39 percent fair, 38 percent good, and 6 percent excellent.

Cotton squaring progressed to 98 percent, while cotton setting bolls progressed to 70 percent. Cotton bolls opening progressed to 7 percent. Cotton condition was rated at 7 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 53 percent fair, and 31 percent good. 

Rice headed progressed to 79 percent this week, 17 percentage points behind last year. Rice condition was rated at 3 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 38 percent fair, 41 percent good, and 13 percent excellent. 

Alfalfa third cutting progressed to 59 percent, 12 percentage points behind last year and 6 percentage points behind the 5-year average.

NEBRASKA 

Topsoil moisture supplies rated 2 percent very short, 11 short, 77 adequate, and 10 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 1 percent very short, 10 short, 79 adequate, and 10 surplus.

Field Crops Report

Corn condition rated 1 percent very poor, 6 poor, 19 fair, 59 good, and  15 excellent. Corn dough was 61 percent, well behind 86 last year, and behind 80 for the fiveyear average. Dented was 17 percent, behind 35 last year and 27 average. 

Soybean condition rated 1 percent very poor, 5 poor, 22 fair, 62 good, and 10 excellent. Soybeans blooming was 93 percent, behind 99 both last year and average. Setting pods was  78 percent, behind 90 last year and 87 average. 

Winter wheat harvested was 96 percent, near 100 both last year and average.

Sorghum condition rated 0 percent very poor, 1 poor, 18 fair, 70 good, and 11 excellent. Sorghum headed was 85 percent, behind 95 last year and 92 average. Coloring was 13 percent, well behind 40 last year, and behind 31 average. 

Oats harvested was 94 percent, behind 100 last year, and near 96 average.

Dry edible bean condition rated 5 percent very poor, 18 poor, 20 fair, 50 good, and 7 excellent. Dry edible beans blooming was 92 percent. Setting pods was 75 percent.
