South Dakota's wheat growers are encouraged to enter the state's yield contest, and the deadline has been extended to May 30. The contest is for both spring and winter wheat.
Applications can be picked up at participating sponsors which include: CHS Midwest Cooperative, CHS Northern Plains, CHS Southwest Grains, Wheat Growers Elevator, North Central Farmers Elevator, Oahe Grain Corporation, Sioux Nation, Dakota Mill & Grain or the South Dakota Wheat Inc office in Pierre.
Awards will be presented at Ag Horizons in Pierre this December with fist place in each district taking home a $500 price. Second place earns $300.
Contestants must be South Dakota Wheat Inc. members in good standing.
There are seven reporting regions, and a farm my enter more than one field in the yield contest. The entries will be judge based on the field location.
Fields must be at least 10 acres planted to one wheat variety, and a minimum 2.5 acres must be harvested for the official weight and yield.
