GARDNER, N.D. – Cover crops are slowly gaining acceptance in the Red River Valley. But bringing livestock into the sustainability equation has raised a few eyebrows, since most think the farmland in the area is too valuable to use for a livestock enterprise. However, a young farmer and rancher have teamed up in a Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education (SARE) project to show that it might be a winning combination. A field day was held on July 25 to showcase the results of their work so far this growing season.
